Burbank Educator Fills Schools Post
A Burbank educator has become the new assistant superintendent of instructional services for the Moorpark Unified School District.
Tina Cantrell, director of secondary education for the Burbank Unified School District, was hired Monday after meeting with Moorpark school board members.
One of 30 applicants for the job, Cantrell fills the position left when Frank DePasquale was promoted to superintendent.
Cantrell’s experience with high school programs impressed school officials, DePasquale said.
“I was looking for strength at the secondary level,” DePasquale said.
This year’s freshman class will be the first required to pass a high school exit examination before moving to the senior year, DePasquale said. This year is also the third year the Stanford 9 standardized test is in place, and the focus is always on improving the previous year’s scores, DePasquale said.
Cantrell begins her new job Sept. 11.
