* Lucy O. Flores; Elder of Saticoy Chumash Tribe
Lifelong Ventura County resident Lucy Ortega Flores, a retired hardware store clerk, died Sunday at St. John’s Pleasant Valley Hospital in Camarillo after a lengthy illness. She was 86.
She was born Sept. 21, 1913, in Saticoy and grew up there.
Flores was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Ventura and the Saticoy Historical Society and was an elder of the Saticoy Chumash Tribe.
In 1992, she retired from the Saticoy Hardware store after working there for 40 years.
She was a charter member of Soule Park golf course and played golf for the last 53 years throughout California. She was a member of the Olivas Park and Buenaventura golf courses.
Flores loved crafts, flowers, gardening in her vegetable patch, cooking, playing bingo and going to Las Vegas, Reno and Laughlin, Nev.
When her children were younger she was a den mother for the Cub Scouts, active in the Saticoy Little League and a Girl Scout leader.
Two years ago, Flores was preceded in death by her daughter, Anna Gayle Flores.
She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Jose; son Bruce, and four grandchildren.
Visitation will be Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m., with a rosary recitation at 7 p.m., at Ted Mayr Funeral Home in Ventura.
A funeral Mass is scheduled Friday at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Ventura, with burial following at Santa Clara Cemetery in Oxnard.
Arrangements are under the direction of Ted Mayr Funeral Home in Ventura.
