MISSION VIEJO

Commuters rushing through the intersection of Alicia Parkway and Jeronimo Road will see a welcome sight this weekend when the string of orange cones disappears, opening up new turn lanes.

All the city is waiting for is Southern California Edison to relocate an equipment vault now in the old median along Alicia.

The project, which was approved by the City Council in December, is adding left-turn lanes on both streets and extra right-turn lanes on Jeronimo Road. The number of left-turn lanes will be increased from one to two in each direction with the exception of northbound Jeronimo Road, which already has dual turn lanes.

The total cost of the project, including the construction contract, property easements and additional expenses, is $848,792.
