Virginia Lee Gibson; Former English Teacher
Virginia Lee Gibson, a former English teacher, died Saturday at St. John’s Regional Medical Center in Oxnard. She was 71.
She was born Nov. 10, 1928, in Houston.
When she was in her early 20s, she married Charles C. Gibson and the couple lived in several countries while he worked in U.S. embassies. She taught English to children in Taiwan and Iran.
Gibson loved children and worked with many orphanages. She also worked with FOOD Share and assisted the elderly. She lived in Oxnard for the last 25 years.
She was preceded in death by son Lester Lee Gibson.
In addition to her husband of 50 years, she is survived by daughters Sandra Carey of Montana, Deborah Palmer of Oxnard, Michelle Kinsley of Alhambra, Christina Lawrence of Oxnard, Natasha Gibson of Oxnard; sons Charles M. Gibson of Las Vegas, Lyle Gibson of Oxnard; 16 grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 1 to 5 p.m. today at James A. Reardon Mortuary in Oxnard.
A funeral service is scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday, also at James A. Reardon Mortuary, with a committal service immediately following at Conejo Mountain Memorial Park in Camarillo.
Arrangements are under the direction of Pierce Bros. Griffin Mortuary in Thousand Oaks.
