Crash Kills Teen, Injures Passenger
A 16-year-old motorist was killed and his 16-year-old male passenger critically injured in a single-car accident early Saturday, Los Angeles police said.
The 1992 Lexus sedan struck a fence and tree about 6:15 a.m. in the 6400 block of La Tuna Canyon Road, near the Verdugo Hills Golf Course, said Officer Michelle Lopez of the Los Angeles Police Department’s Valley Traffic Division.
Authorities said the apparent cause of the accident was speeding, but there were no witnesses and the investigation is continuing.
Emergency personnel had to cut the car apart to free the victims, Lopez said.
The passenger was taken to Providence Holy Cross Medical Center, where he was treated for massive head and body trauma, Lopez said. Hospital personnel would not comment on the boy’s status Saturday afternoon.
Police said the teens, both from Tujunga, were wearing seat belts.
