Fresh Maps for Backpackers’ Packs
The National Geographic Society, continuing its aggressive expansion of products and alliances, is producing a series of water- and tear-resistant maps aimed at international trekkers.
The first four to be released focus on regions in Nepal. For instance, the Mt. Everest one has a topographic map of the Everest Base Camp area on one side; the reverse has other area maps, plus tips on local trekking. Maps on Costa Rica and Kenya are expected in the next two years, according to spokeswoman Liz Gehman. Each one, dubbed an “adventureMAP,” costs $16.99.
