Romprey Powers Fullerton Twice
David Towery had a key home run and Eddie Romprey got the victory and had the winning hit as Fullerton beat host Scottsdale, 10-9, in the Glendale (Ariz.) tournament Saturday.
Towery’s home run tied the score, 9-9, in the sixth inning.
Romprey (1-0) didn’t give up a run in the top of the seventh, then got the winning hit in the bottom of the inning in a game called because of darkness.
Earlier, the Hornets (2-2) defeated Phoenix, 8-7, when Romprey walked with the bases loaded in the bottom of the eighth to break a 7-7 tie.
In the Bakersfield tournament:
Long Beach 12, Golden West 6 (seven innings)--Ty Harper and Josue Pena each had an RBI single for Golden West (2-1).
In the Orange Coast tournament:
Saddleback 9, Mt. San Jacinto 3--Reliever Adam Green (1-0) retired 12 in a row starting in the fifth inning for host Saddleback. Gerry Alesia had two hits and two RBIs for Saddleback (3-0). Jud Richards hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the fifth inning to tie it, 3-3, for the Gauchos.
In the South Bay tournament:
Santa Ana wins twice--Nick Harvey had a home run, a triple and two singles and Tony Calderon had three hits and four RBIs on the day as Santa Ana beat Consumes River, 9-4, and Glendale, 14-4.
In the Desert tournament:
Cypress 9, Skyline 7--Ben Francisco homered, doubled, singled twice and had three RBIs for Cypress (3-0), which also beat Solano, 5-3.
In the Arizona Western softball tournament:
Golden West 8, Chandler (Ariz.) 1--Danielle Armendariz had two hits, scored two runs and drove in two for Golden West.
In the Long Beach tournament:
Santa Ana 2, El Camino 1--Rachelle Ngayen’s two-out RBI single in the bottom of the seventh broke a 1-1 tie for Santa Ana (2-3).
