A Name Change for Secretaries Week
Professional Secretaries Week has been renamed Administrative Professionals Week, effective with this year’s observance beginning April 23, an industry group said. The name change reflects the change in job titles in the U.S. and growing responsibilities faced by administrative workers today, International Assn. of Administrative Professionals President Cynthia Lively said. The title “secretary” now only covers a minority of workers in administrative support jobs, she said. The tradition of honoring secretaries began in 1952 to recognize their contributions to the workplace and as a way to attract young people to the profession.
