Safe Cyber-Dating
* Pay attention to the image a dating site projects and think about what type of person would feel comfortable socializing there. If it feels sleazy, it could be.
* Always choose a site that gives you anonymity. When you feel comfortable, it will be up to you to make a call or give your phone number out. Women should get phone numbers from men, not give their own.
* Exchange a few e-mails with someone before giving out any personal information.
* Trust your gut. If you feel suspicious of someone online, move on.
* Screen people on the telephone, without revealing where you live or work.
* A first meeting should be in a public place. Tell a friend where you’re going, and arrange to check in with them later. Have your own transportation, and don’t let your date walk you to your car.
* “Women need to remember all the cautions they would follow in regular dating,” said Angela Heller, producer of “Love on the Internet,” part of A&E;’s “Love Chronicles” series. “Don’t forget this is a person you do not know.”
