Two city planning commissioners want to launch a task force that could help lift the dreary face of South Laguna’s commercial area.
Cheryl L. Kinsman and Gregory Vail, commissioners and South Laguna residents, want to bring a village atmosphere to the district, which sits on Pacific Coast Highway between Catalina and 6th avenues.
South Laguna residents “are losing the type of businesses they want, like drugstores and quaint restaurants,” Kinsman said. “The stores are being replaced by real estate offices and dentists. It’s not bad, but we need a way to preserve South Laguna’s village character.”
