Beach Closures
Four Ventura County beaches are posted with pollution warning signs, but swimmers and surfers should consider all local ocean waters at risk through the weekend because of contaminated storm runoff, Ventura County health officials reported Thursday.
Beaches posted with warning signs this weekend are Surfers Point, near the stables, in Ventura; Peninsula Beach near the mouth of Ventura Harbor; and Hobie Beach and Channel Islands Harbor Beach Park in Oxnard.
Swimmers, waders and surfers should keep out of water that is at least 50 yards on both sides of the signs to avoid bacteria, officials advise. Weekly beach testing occurs at 53 locations in Ventura County and results can be obtained by calling the county ocean water quality hotline at 805-662-6555 or visiting the Web site at www.ventura.org/env_hlth/ocean.htm.
