Work.com Spins Off with Dow Jones
@Home Corp. is spinning off its Work.com site to create a new company with Dow Jones & Co. to provide news and information to small businesses. An initial public offering is planned for this year. The joint venture will keep the Work.com name and combines news from Dow Jones’ Web site, and information and tools from @Home’s online service for small and medium-size businesses. Redwood City, Calif.-based @Home, which goes by the name Excite@Home, and New York-based Dow Jones will each have a 50% ownership in Work.com. Financial details weren’t disclosed. Dow Jones rose 63 cents to close at $63.56 on the NYSE, and @Home rose 13 cents to close at $34.19 on Nasdaq.
