* Wisconsin ended its season with a 10-2 record and an eight-game winning streak. Stanford finished 8-4; the loss ended a winning streak at three.
* Wisconsin is 4-0-1 in the all-time series between the schools and has won the last two meetings.
* Wisconsin has won its last three Rose Bowl appearances to even its record in the game at 3-3. Stanford is 5-6-1 in the Rose Bowl; this loss ended a two-game winning streak.
* In the modern series between the Big Ten and Pacific 10 conferences, the Big Ten leads, 28-26-0.
* Wisconsin is the first Big Ten team under the modern agreement 1947-present to win back-to-back Rose Bowl games in consecutive seasons.
USC 1932-33, 1939-40, 1944-45, 1979-80 accomplished the feat, as did Washington 1960-61, 1991-92 , Stanford 1971-72 and UCLA 1983-84 .
In the Big Ten, Michigan won in consecutive appearances 1902, 1948, 1951, 1965 and then 1993 and 1998, as has Michigan State 1954, 1956, Ohio State 1950, 1955, 1958, 1969, Iowa 1957, 1959, and Illinois 1952, 1964. The Big Ten had a no-repeat rule in effect from 1946-60.
* The Pac-10 finished 1-4 in bowl games this season, the Big Ten 5-2.
* Wisconsin’s Ron Dayne is the first player since USC’s Charles White to win Rose Bowl player-of-the-game honors two years in a row. White won the award in 1979 and 1980. Only Dayne, White, and Washington quarterback Bob Schloredt 1960-61 have won back-to-back player-of-the-game honors.
* Dayne set a Rose Bowl record for most points scored in a career with 30, breaking the mark of 25 set Michigan’s Neil Snow in 1902 and Washington’s Travis Henson in 1991-93.
* Dayne also set a modern Rose Bowl career record for touchdowns with five, breaking the record of four shared by many players, and equaled the all-time record of Snow from 1902.
* Dayne’s 200 yards rushing was less than his near-record of 246 last season, but is still the fifth-best total in Rose Bowl history.
* Wisconsin set a team defensive record by holding Stanford to minus-five yards rushing. The Badgers broke the record of 0 set by UCLA against Illinois in 1984.
* Dayne’s 64-yard run broke Wisconsin’s team bowl record of 54 set by Alan Ameche against USC in 1953 and Dayne last year against UCLA.
