Whiteside Scores 26 as Titans Beat San Jose
Erin Whiteside had 26 points and 21 rebounds to help the Cal State Fullerton women’s basketball team earn its first victory this season, 86-77 over San Jose State in a nonconference game Sunday at Fullerton.
Whiteside made 12 of 15 free throws and seven of 10 shots from the field for the Titans, who shot 52% from the field.
Kristina Naumovic had 18 points, nine rebounds and six assists and Kandace Hunter added 14 points for Fullerton (1-9).
Natasha Johnson scored 19 points for San Jose State (2-9).
In other nonconference games:
San Diego 71, UC Irvine 64 (OT)--The Toreros (6-5) trailed by 11 at halftime but held the host Anteaters to 21 points in the second half to help force overtime. Jessica Gray had 21 points and 16 rebounds for San Diego.
Megan Stafford and Shannon Anders each scored 18 points for Irvine (7-4).
Chapman 61, College of Notre Dame 52--Bridget Kennedy scored 17 points and April Abeyta had 13 points and 19 rebounds for the host Panthers (3-6), who shot 27% from the field but outrebounded Notre Dame (8-3), 70-37.
