FOOTBALL

Sunny Hills High football Coach Tim Brogden has resigned, Athletic Director Ralph Trigsted said.

The Lancers finished 2-8, 0-5 in the Freeway League in Brogden’s only season as coach. Sunny Hills lost its final eight games of the season.

The reason for the resignation: “The statement we’re using is ‘philosophical differences,’ ” said Trigsted, who declined to elaborate. Brogden, who coached at Cerritos Gahr before coming to Sunny Hills, will continue to teach physical education at the school.

SOCCER

Travis Cutler, a striker from Arcadia High, has committed to play soccer at UC Irvine, Larry Cutler, his father, said.

Cutler scored 22 goals and was selected second-team All-Southern Section last season. He is a two-time All--Pacific League selection.

BASEBALL

The Orange County NewsChannel will televise 15 Cal State Fullerton home baseball games, the school and station announced.

The first broadcast will be Feb. 11-12 when the No. 2-ranked Titans play host to 10th-ranked Baylor. Other games scheduled to be televised: Feb. 18-19, Nevada Las Vegas; March 5, USC; March 17-18, Pacific; April 7-8, Sacramento State; April 14, Long Beach State; April 28-29, UC Santa Barbara; May 2, San Diego State; May 5-6, Nevada.

From Jan. 27 through May 25, the station will also carry a half-hour viewer call-in show each Thursday at 10 p.m., featuring Fullerton Coach George Horton.

VOLLEYBALL

Jamie Brownell, an outside hitter from Corona del Mar High, has committed to Stanford, the Orange County Volleyball Club announced. Brownell was a first-team All-Southern Section Division III selection this season.

Other Orange County club players making commitments were St. Margaret’s setter Marissa Balak (Columbia), Laguna Beach outside hitter Kellie Cramm (Princeton) and Fountain Valley setter Stephanie Gordon (Concordia).

Golden West outside hitter Lori Daedelow, who led the Rustlers to two state women’s volleyball titles, has committed to Oregon State, Coach Albert Gasparian said.

Daedelow, a sophomore, was selected most valuable player of this season’s state tournament.

She led Golden West, which has won seven consecutive state titles, to 27-0 records in each of her two seasons.
