Notre Dame 54, Loyola 52--Cody Pearson had 21 points, 10 rebounds and five assists, and Michael Luderer added 19 points for the Knights (11-4, 1-1), who nearly blew an eight-point fourth-quarter lead in a Mission League game at Loyola.
Freshman Omar Wilkes, son of former Laker Jamaal Wilkes, missed a three-point shot at the buzzer for the Cubs.
Newbury Park 63, Westlake 62--Rudy Flores made a free throw with two seconds left in overtime for visiting Newbury Park in a Marmonte League game.
Matt Currie made two free throws with 12 seconds left for Newbury Park (8-5, 2-0) in regulation to force overtime.
Will Svitek had 22 points and 14 rebounds, and John Harris made five three-pointers for Newbury Park.
Hueneme 62, Camarillo 48--Anthony Camper scored 12 of his 20 points in the second quarter and Eric Watkins had nine of his 15 points in the fourth quarter for Hueneme (9-6, 1-0) in a Pacific View League opener at Camarillo.
Ventura 60, San Marcos 57--Mike Derse had 18 points and six rebounds for Ventura in a Channel League opener at San Marcos.
Tyler Ebell scored 14 points, including two three-point baskets, for Ventura (12-5), ranked No. 9 in the region by The Times.
Buena 55, Rio Mesa 54--David Kanongata’a scored with six second remaining, but the Spartans couldn’t score again in a nonleague game at Buena.
Kanongata’a finished with 17 points.
Robbie Blanks had 12 points and five steals for Buena (5-12).
Burbank 68, Valencia 67--Damien Jordan’s putback with 10 seconds remaining gave Burbank a Foothill League victory at Valencia.
Jordan finished with 15 points and Frank Reed scored 16 for the Bulldogs (10-4, 1-0). Trenton Cleveland contributed 11 points, including two fourth-quarter three-pointers.
Granada Hills 78, Grant 66--Rufus Parks scored 18 points with five steals and the Highlanders (8-7) upset the No. 7 Lancers in a nonleague game at Granada Hills.
DeWayne Anderson scored 33 points for Grant (11-3).
Burroughs 69, Hart 47--Tyler Newton had 18 points, 10 rebounds and three assists, and Keith Jarbo added 12 points and seven assists to lead Burroughs in a Foothill League opener. Tamir Barkan had 17 points for Hart.
