Clemson Shocks North Carolina State
Clemson’s swarming defense was too much for third-ranked North Carolina State on Thursday night. The Tigers defeated the Wolfpack, 71-56, at Clemson, S.C., knocking North Carolina State from the ranks of the unbeaten.
It was the lowest offensive output of the season for the Wolfpack. North Carolina State, 14-1 overall and 5-1 in the Atlantic Coast Conference, hadn’t scored less than 62 points since a 52-51 loss to Clemson in the quarterfinals of last year’s ACC tournament.
Clemson (11-5, 2-2) also beat No. 15 North Carolina, 60-59, on Monday at Chapel Hill.
No. 5 Penn State 76, No. 12 Illinois 66--Andrea Garner scored 18 points at State College, Pa., as the Lady Lions (14-2, 5-0) outscored the Illini (14-5, 4-1) to take over sole possession of first place in the Big Ten.
No. 7 Georgia 78, Florida 71--Deanna Nolan scored 19 points for the Bulldogs (16-2, 2-1) in a Southeastern Conference victory over the Gators (10-5, 1-2) at Gainesville, Fla.
No. 9 Auburn 69, Alabama 51--Shana Askew scored 15 points for the Tigers (13-2, 2-1) in an SEC victory over the Crimson Tide (10-5, 0-2) at Auburn, Ala.
No. 11 Duke 82, Wake Forest 48--Missy West made six of nine three-point shots and scored 22 points in an ACC victory over the Deamon Deacons (5-10, 1-3) at Durham, N.C., leading the Blue Devils (15-1, 4-0) to their 14th consecutive victory.
Georgia Tech 55, No. 15 North Carolina 44--The Tar Heels (9-6, 1-4) made only 17% of their shots in the first half of an ACC loss to the Yellow Jackets (10-5, 3-3) at Atlanta.
No. 17 Louisiana State 82, Arkansas 69-- DeTrina White scored 27 points on 12-of-14 shooting and had 12 rebounds to lead the Lady Tigers (12-3, 3-1) over the Razorbacks (9-5, 0-2) in an SEC game at Fayetteville, Ark., giving Coach Sue Gunter her 600th victory.
Ohio State 53, No. 18 Purdue 51--Michaela Moua’s layup at the buzzer gave the Buckeyes (9-5, 2-2) a Big Ten victory over the Boilermakers (9-5, 1-3) at Columbus, Ohio.
No. 20 Arizona 83, Washington State 68--Tatum Brown scored 18 points to lead the Wildcats (13-2, 2-1) to a Pac-10 win over the Cougars (3-10, 0-3) at Pullman, Wash.
No. 23 Oregon 67, California 51--Angelina Wolvert made all six of her shots, all three of her free throws and scored 15 points to lead the Ducks (11-3, 2-0) to a Pac-10 victory over the Golden Bears (5-8, 0-3) at Berkeley.
No. 24 Mississippi State 82, Mississippi 58--LaToya Thomas scored 31 points to lead the Bulldogs (12-2, 1-2) over the Lady Rebels (10-4, 0-2) in an SEC game at Starkville, Miss.
