MARY’S (5-8) at PEPPERDINE (10-5), 7--The Waves begin West Coast Conference play with momentum after defeating Northwestern on a buzzer-beating three-point basket by guard Tezale Archie last week. Archie, a senior, is one of several Waves who have flourished under first-year Coach Jan van Breda Kolff. Forwards Kelvin Gibbs and Tommie Prince and guard Brandon Armstrong all are off to strong starts. St. Mary’s relies heavily on 7-foot-3 center Brad Millard, who returns after a disciplinary benching against UC Santa Barbara.
