Bailey Will Take This One to the Bank
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — Ryan Bailey stood at the free-throw line Saturday with the game on the line.
“I know if he would have missed them, I would have killed him,” teammate Rico Hines said. “We’re roommates, so when we got home I would have strangled him.”
Bailey, who had made five of eight this season and 58.3% of his attempts last season, banked in the first try and got a generous bounce off the heel of the rim on the second with 14.9 seconds remaining to turn UCLA’s 69-68 lead into a 71-68 victory at the Smith Center.
“I definitely felt the pressure,” said Bailey, a junior reserve guard. “In an arena like this and against a class program like North Carolina, I was definitely feeling that. I’ll remember those for the rest of my life.”
