Post-Golden Globe Parties Were a Floor Show

Making the rounds at the numerous post-Golden Globe Awards parties at the Beverly Hilton on Sunday evening was a little like trick-or-treating for adults. You get all dressed up, grab your goodie bag and go door to door, or rather floor to floor, in search of the best fun.

The DreamWorks party at Trader Vic’s was the first stop for many. DreamWorks honcho Steven Spielberg entertained best supporting actor winner Tom Cruise (“Magnolia”) and the “American Beauty” winners--director Sam Mendes and writer Alan Ball--along with Matt Damon, Claudia Schiffer, Harrison Ford, and Jodie Foster, with date Russell Crowe.

On the fourth floor, Sony Pictures hosted an elegant affair where best supporting actress Angelina Jolie (“Girl, Interrupted”) greeted well-wishers Melanie Griffith and Antonio Banderas, as well as her “Girl, Interrupted” director, James Mangold. Jolie said she was thrilled to be recognized for the third year in a row by the Hollywood Foreign Press--although she was unsure about the whereabouts of her latest statuette!

Also on hand were Peter Fonda (who won for his supporting role in the cable movie “The Passion of Ayn Rand”), French actress Catherine Deneuve and Irish director Neil Jordan (“The End of the Affair”).

Nearly everyone except young Haley Joel Osment (“The Sixth Sense”) left the ground-floor Disney party pretty early (and even he was missing in action for a few minutes when Kevin Spacey whisked him off to Trader Vic’s), even though Disney was celebrating a big win for “Toy Story 2” as best musical or comedy film.

On the other hand, “The Talented Mr. Ripley” won not a single award, but the Paramount Pictures/Miramax Films party on the eighth floor proved to be the event to crash. The evergreen playboy Hugh Hefner showed up with his ever-present coterie of blond bunnies.

The ground-floor party co-hosted by Warner Bros. and In Style magazine was the last stop for many, including Julianna Margulies and her date, former “ER” co-star Ron Eldard, “Felicity’s” Amy Jo Johnson and award winner Halle Berry.

The best pre-Golden Globe warmup party was Talk magazine editor Tina Brown’s at the Mondrian Hotel on Saturday night. Guests included Hugh Grant and Elizabeth Hurley, Robert De Niro, Chloe Sevigny, Sigourney Weaver, Keri Russell, Dylan McDermott, Steve Martin, Lauren Holly and Amanda Peet.
