A special committee of parents told the school board Tuesday that students from first to third grade would benefit from 30 minutes of extra instructional time.
“This is something that affects the heart of learning,” said Maura Doyle, chairwoman and founder of the More Instructional Time Committee.
“By increasing the quality and quantity of our instructional minutes, we hope to raise the bar toward academic excellence in our primary grades as a precursor to academic success in later grades.”
The committee, which is made up of parents from elementary schools and the Parent-Teacher Assn., suggested that dismissal time be moved from 1:40 to 2:10 p.m., bringing elementary grades up to par with grades 4 to 6.
