Croat War Crimes
Hilda Foley comments on the atrocities attributed to alleged Serbian war criminal Zeljko Raznatovic (letter, Jan. 21). I call attention to the unspeakable tortures by the five Bosnian Croats who were found guilty of war crimes against humanity in the massacre of more than 100 Muslims in 1993, which included 33 women and children (Jan. 15). Whole families were gunned down, scores of houses were burned, two mosques destroyed and people burned alive.
“Indisputably . . . one of the most vicious illustrations of man’s inhumanity to man,” commented the presiding judge. Valdimir Santic, commander of the notorious special purpose military police unit known as the Jokers, received the longest sentence--25 years.
