Death Toll From Landslides at 236

Landslides set off by heavy rains have left 213 people dead in central China and killed 23 people in the western region, state media reported. Large areas of farmland in the west have been damaged by the slides since the beginning of July, the report said. In central China, the number of victims in the landslides last week in Shaanxi province rose to 213 after scores of bodies were dug out of collapsed houses. In the province’s Ankang district, 4,000 homes were destroyed.
