Suspect Eludes Police in Car-to-Car Shooting of Girl
HAWTHORNE — A suspect in a car-to-car shooting that critically wounded a 17-year-old girl escaped early Wednesday before police could surround a home in which he had taken refuge, detectives said.
After the shooting, which occurred about midnight at 111th Street and Truro Avenue, officers pursued the suspect to a house in the 12900 block of Inglewood Avenue, Hawthorne police said. Several hours later, officers entered the home to find the suspect had fled.
The girl, whose identity was not divulged, was in critical condition Wednesday night at Robert F. Kennedy Medical Center. The suspect was not identified either.
Details about the shooting were not available, but police said the girl may have been the unintended victim of a gang dispute.
