The City Council voted in favor of declaring June “Drowning Prevention and Awareness Month.” The proclamation was suggested by the Orange County Fire Authority to increase community awareness. There were seven drowning-related deaths in Orange County in 1999 and 86 deaths since 1990, according to the Fire Authority.
