Wilson Beats Pacifica to Win Softball Title
Jaslyn Espinoza hit a three-run home run as top-seeded Hacienda Heights Wilson won its first Southern Section softball championship with 8-0 victory over three-time defending Division III champion Garden Grove Pacifica Friday at Mayfair Park in Lakewood.
Wilson (27-4-1), in its first title game since 1974, got nine hits, two apiece by Espinoza, Tiffanie Wedell and April Valdez.
Espinoza’s homer came in a four-run third inning, and Jamee Juarez added a two-run single in the Wildcats’ four-run fifth.
Valdez (12-1), who will play next season at DePaul, walked two and struck out four. She gave up nine hits.
