SAN CLEMENTE
The City Council has approved plans to widen Avenida Pico near Interstate 5 to accommodate heavy traffic from San Clemente High School during school hours.
The $1.8-million project will add a lane on each side of Pico between Calle de Industrias and the freeway. Street widening to the east of the freeway will include an additional right-turn lane leading to the northbound onramp.
The project, which is due to begin in August and will take about six months to complete, will include improvements to the freeway ramps.
