2 Women Killed, Man Injured in Crash
Two women were killed and a man was critically injured in a one-car crash Saturday morning on the Golden State Freeway in Santa Clarita, authorities said.
The accident occurred shortly before 9 a.m. when Juan Camacho, 23, of San Diego lost control of his northbound vehicle near Calgrove Boulevard, the California Highway Patrol said.
Witnesses told investigators the car was weaving in and out of traffic and was traveling nearly 100 mph, CHP Officer Shirley Gaines said.
The car spun out of control and onto a dirt shoulder before it overturned and slid 40 feet down an embankment, Gaines said.
Passenger Alma Guzman, 19, also of the San Diego area, was ejected and died instantly, Gaines said.
The second passenger, a 20-year-old woman, was trapped inside the car and pronounced dead at the scene, Gaines said. Her identity was withheld by authorities pending notification of her family.
Camacho was taken to Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital in Valencia, where he was reported to be on life-support equipment Saturday evening.
