CLU Honors Late Coach Tom Landry
Cal Lutheran University will pay tribute to late Dallas Cowboys coach Tom Landry at a special event June 22.
Under Landry, the football team trained for 26 summers at the Thousand Oaks campus, and players were housed in its dorms.
Local residents were often invited to watch the team practice, and kids assisted players and staff on the sidelines.
In 1980, the school established a yearly award in Landry’s name for people who have excelled in their professions and have a positive influence on youth. Recipients have included former President Gerald Ford, former governors Pete Wilson and George Deukmejian and former UCLA basketball coach John Wooden.
The tribute to Landry, who died in February at the age of 75, will be held at Hyatt Westlake Plaza hotel. A reception starts at 6 p.m., followed by dinner at 7.
Special guests include Landry’s widow, Alicia, and former Cowboys players.
Tickets range from $150 to $5,000, and organizers are taking reservations through Thursday. For further information, call (805) 493-3829.
