* Lester L. Harris; Head of Speech, Hearing Clinic
Lester L. Harris, 82, who for 32 years directed the Whittier College Speech and Hearing Clinic named in his honor. Harris also headed the college’s department of communication disorders. The clinic aided people in Whittier and surrounding communities until it closed in 1998 when the college discontinued its academic major in speech pathology and audiology. Harris helped found and remained active in the California Speech, Language and Hearing Assn. and the California Speech Pathologists and Audiologists in Private Practice. Born in Fort Worth, he attended the Oklahoma Panhandle Agricultural and Mechanical College and graduated from the University of Denver. He earned a doctorate in speech pathology from USC in 1950 and spent his entire career teaching and heading the clinic at Whittier. On June 6 in Whittier.
