Attilio Bertolucci; Poet, Father of Filmmakers

Attilio Bertolucci, 88, poet and father of film directors Bernardo and Giuseppe. Bertolucci, born near the city of Parma in central Italy, won one of Italy’s most prestigious literary awards for an autobiographical free-verse novel, “The Bedroom,” which was published in two parts in 1984 and 1988. The first part was made into a movie. A university professor who wrote art and movie criticism, he had a lifelong passion for the movies, which he passed on to his sons. His writings appear in several anthologies. His first collection of poems, “November Fire,” was published in 1934. On Wednesday in Rome after a long illness.
