Lew Gallo; Actor, Television Producer

Lew Gallo, 71, actor and television producer of such series as “Love American Style.” After beginning his career on the New York stage, performing in the original Broadway production of “Will Success Spoil Rock Hunter?” Gallo came to Hollywood, where he acted in several films, including “Pork Chop Hill,” “PT 109” and “The Cheap Detective.” An infantryman in the Korean War, Gallo proved adept at military and western roles. On television, he was cast as Maj. Joseph Cobb in the series “Twelve O’Clock High,” about bomber pilots in World War II, and he frequently appeared on “Gunsmoke,” “Dick Powell’s Zane Grey Theater,” “Rawhide,” “The Dakotas,” “The Virginian,” “The Big Valley” and “The Iron Horse.” He also seemed to enjoy science fiction, taking roles in such television series as “The Twilight Zone,” “Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea,” “The Time Tunnel” and “Lost in Space” and in “Aliens From Another Planet,” a 1982 movie for television. Gallo segued easily into television production, working on the popular satirical series “Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman,” such series as “Nobody’s Perfect” and “Aloha Paradise” and a number of Mickey Spillane movies for television. He also was known for establishing charity golf tournaments to benefit the Entertainment Industry Foundation. On June 11 in Los Angeles of complications from an aortic aneurysm.
