DeHart Pitches 1-Hitter for Huntington Beach
Mike DeHart pitched a one-hitter as Huntington Beach defeated Riverside La Sierra, 2-0, in a North Orange County baseball tournament quarterfinal game Monday at Amerige Park.
Brett Flowers, Chad Maki and Joe Huskins each doubled for Huntington Beach (3-0), which advanced to Wednesday’s semifinals.
In other tournament games:
Mission Viejo 17, Buena Park 5 (5, mercy)--Shawn Stacy, Billy Hart and Jason Ferrell homered for Mission Viejo (2-0). Hart had five RBIs and Stacy four RBIs for the Diablos in the second-round game.
Trabuco Hills 13, Palos Verdes Peninsula 7--Sean Boatright had two hits and five RBIs for Trabuco Hills (1-1) in a consolation game.
In the Loara tournament:
Edison 6, Irvine 2--Steve Henderson had two hits and three RBIs, including a two-run home run in the fourth, for Edison (1-1) in the second round.
El Dorado 11, Servite 2--Brian Verhellen had two doubles and Micha Hazen had two RBIs for El Dorado (2-0) in the second-round game. Servite is 1-1.
Long Beach Wilson 5, Katella 3--Katella’s Rafael Lua had two hits and two RBIs in the second-round loss.
In the Montebello tournament:
Orange 11, Norwalk Pioneer 1 (6, mercy)--Anthony Alvarado gave up one hit, a flair single in the fifth, in five innings for Orange in the second-round game. John Medina had two doubles and scored two runs for the Panthers (2-0).
In nonleague boys’ golf:
Fairmont 230, Oxford Academy 248--Michael Pastrano shot a five-over 40 and Tammy Chang a 42 for Fairmont (1-2) at Dad Miller.
Santa Margarita 374, Villa Park 395--Medalist Steve Conway had five birdies and no bogeys as he shot a five-under 67 for Santa Margarita (2-0) in a two-day match played at at Coto de Caza North and Strawberry Farms. Conway has shot par or below in every round this year.
Tustin 208, Garden Grove 239--Medalist Chris Pack shot a three-over 39 for host Tustin (4-0) at Tustin Ranch.
In the Corona softball tournament:
Canyon 4, Riverside Notre Dame 1--Lindsey Klabacha (2-0) pitched a six-hitter and Ashley Stewart and Erin Slettvet had two hits each for Canyon (3-0).
In nonleague boys’ swimming:
Newport Harbor 117, Los Alamitos 52--Newport Harbor’s Peter Belden won the 50-yard freestyle in 21.81.
In nonleague girls’ swimming:
Newport Harbor 94, Los Alamitos 66--Newport Harbor’s 200-yard medley relay team of Hayley Peirsol, Jennifer Arrow, Nicole Mackey and Amy Murphy broke the school record with a time of 1:53.97.
The previous record of 1:54.62 was set in 1994. Mackey also broke the school record in the 100-yard butterfly by more than four seconds with a time of 57.21.
In nonleague boys’ tennis:
Canyon 12, Irvine 6--Canyon’s Travis Kula and Kevin Saman swept at doubles, 6-1, 6-2, 6-1, and Brian Batsel swept in single, 7-6, 6-0, 6-1, for the Comanches.
Marina 15, Trabuco Hills 3--Alex Baron and Kha Nguyen swept in doubles, 6-2, 6-0, 6-3, for Marina (1-1).
Santa Ana 14, Los Amigos 4--Senior Gilbert Teran improved to 12-0 on the season with a 6-1, 6-0, 6-4 sweep for Santa Ana (4-0).
Sonora 17, Katella 1--Adolfo Wurts swept in singles, 6-4, 6-1, 6-0, and Fred Grether and Jordan Green won won in doubles, 6-0, 6-4, 6-1, for Sonora (2-1).
Western 16, Buena Park 2--Chris Dostourian and Derek Tran swept in doubles, 6-1, 6-3, 6-0, for Western (3-0).
Woodbridge 16, Diamond Bar 2--Brett Van Linge, Jonathan Sheridan and Erik Oijala swept in singles for Woodbridge (2-1).
In nonleague boys’ volleyball:
Canyon 3, Brea Olinda 1--John Parfitt and Syna Mohkami had 15 kills each for Canyon (1-1), which won, 5-15, 16-14, 15-6, 15-10.
