Community Service Scholarships Offered
WATTS — The Kaiser Permanente Watts Counseling and Learning Center is looking for scholarship candidates.
The center is accepting applications for five $2,000 Bill Coggins Community Leadership Awards for high school and college students who have made contributions to their communities.
“We created these scholarships because there are many young adults who are trying to get through school and demonstrate positive leadership skills through community service,” said the center’s associate director, Joanne Robinson.
Candidates must have 100 hours of community service and have at least a 2.8 grade-point average. The center named the scholarships in honor of its founding director. They are funded by a cash prize grant received in 1996 from the American Assn. of Health Plans. Applications are due April 24, and are available at 1465 E. 103rd St. and from area high schools, colleges and universities.
