Wright’s One-Over-Par 73 Leads Pepperdine
Lindsey Wright of Pepperdine shot a one-over-par 73 in the final round of the Pioneer Electric UCLA Classic women’s golf tournament at Menifee Lakes Country Club in Temecula on Tuesday to win the individual championship and lead the Waves to the team title.
Wright’s three-round total of 217 gave her a one-stroke victory over Mimi Epps of Texas A & M and Leilani Bagby of UCLA.
Pepperdine’s 881 total gave the Waves a 15-stroke victory over Oklahoma State. UCLA finished third with 899.
COLLEGE BASEBALL
Oxnard 6, Moorpark 5--Paul McAnulty hit a two-run double in the ninth inning to tie the score and Wes Munyon followed with a run-scoring double to lift the Condors to a Western State Conference Northern Division victory at Oxnard.
Mike Anderson had three hits and drove in one run for the Condors (11-6, 4-3).
Canyons 24, Valley 8--Larry Brown and Brian Ballew each had three hits to spark a 23-hit attack for the Cougars in a WSC Southern Division victory at Valley.
Brown hit a two-run home run in the fourth inning and Ballew hit a solo shot in the second.
Matt Schwartz had three hits, including a solo home run in the eighth, for Valley (5-8, 0-5).
Cuesta 10, Ventura 5--J.R. Bierly had two hits and scored a run for the Pirates (10-6, 3-4) in a WSC Northern Division game at Ventura.
COLLEGE SOFTBALL
Moorpark 10, Santa Barbara 3--Jackie Aranda had four hits and two runs batted in for the Raiders in a WSC Northern Division victory at Santa Barbara.
Cori Fredette had three hits and three RBIs for Moorpark (9-10, 5-2).
BOYS’ TRACK
Canyon 71, Glendale 65--Senior Drake Morgan cleared a school record 14-7 in the pole vault to help the host Cowboys (2-0) to victory in a nonleague meet.
Morgan cleared 14-7 on his third--and final--attempt to add an inch to his previous school mark before missing three times at 15 feet.
BOYS’ TENNIS
Burbank 12, Crescenta Valley 6--Shara Surabi did not give up a set at No. 2 singles and No. 1 player Tigran Martirosyan surrendered one game in three sets for the Bulldogs (5-0) in a nonleague match at Crescenta Valley.
Harvard-Westlake 18, Chaminade 0--Andrew Magnin and Craig Nehamen each surrendered only two games and swept three sets at No. 1 and No. 2 singles for the Wolverines (4-1, 3-0) in a Mission League match at Studio City Golf and Tennis.
BOYS’ VOLLEYBALL
Grant def. Verdugo Hills, 15-5, 15-4, 15-1--Michael Charleston and Krishna Evans each had eight kills for the Lancers (3-1, 1-0) in a Sunset Six League victory at Verdugo Hills.
Village Christian def. Paraclete, 15-2, 15-2, 15-5--Josh Seffel had eight kills for the Crusaders in an Alpha League victory at Paraclete.
Ken Benesh added seven kills for Village Christian (7-0, 1-0), ranked No. 9 in the region by The Times.
Valencia def. Palmdale, 15-6, 15-4, 15-6--Corey Feldt had 12 kills for the Vikings (2-0), ranked No. 4 in the region, in a victory at Palmdale.
Chaminade def. Harvard-Westlake. 14-16, 15-3, 15-9, 15-2--Adam Hickerson had 17 kills and the Eagles won a Mission League match at Harvard-Westlake.
