Undefeated University Is Top Seed in Division II
As expected, top-ranked University was seeded first in Division II as the Southern Section announced its playoff pairings Tuesday.
University (14-0), the Pacific Coast League champion, could face fourth-seeded Troy (21-0), the Freeway League champion, in the semifinals. University will meet the winner of the Corona Santiago-Chino Don Lugo wild-card match Tuesday in the first round. San Clemente, making its first playoff appearance in eight years, will host Montebello in a wild-card match Friday.
Corona del Mar (17-6), which lost twice to University, will open defense of its Division I title at home against Diamond Bar, the second-place team from the Sierra League. The third-seeded Sea Kings, who are led by PCL singles champion Cameron Ball, could meet Santa Ana (19-0), the Golden West League champion, in the second round.
Sunset League champion Los Alamitos (14-1), which suffered its only loss to Corona del Mar on games, was seeded fourth and could meet top-seeded and undefeated Palos Verdes Peninsula in the semifinals. Fourth-ranked Capistrano Valley (14-1), the South Coast League champion, will open with the Fountain Valley-Saddleback winner.
Woodbridge (14-6), which lost to Corona del Mar in the Division I finals last year, was seeded fourth in Division III. The Warriors host Villa Park in the first round and could meet top-seeded Westlake Village Westlake in the semifinals.
All division finals will be May 31 at the Claremont Club.
