Applications Sought for Program Grants
Ventura County Community Foundation is accepting applications from area nonprofit organizations for the 2000 Women’s Legacy Fund Grants Program.
The program supports nonprofit groups that have programs aimed at women and girls.
Applications should focus on the underlying causes of family or child abuse, anger and women on welfare.
The grant amount will range to a maximum of $15,000, though it is the intention of the foundation to award one or more grants for $3,000 or less.
The proposed program should begin in September and cover up to a year.
“Programs for women and girls are only about 5% of all the nonprofit programs,” said Gail Weller Brown, program officer for the foundation. “There is still a double standard and women and girls have problems related to building self-esteem. We also have a domestic violence problem and parenting issues women need to face to make the most of their lives.”
Last year the foundation gave $1.5 million in grants to various organizations.
Weller Brown said her organization expects to receive about 30 applications, which must be received by 5 p.m. on June 9.
To secure an application or for more information, call Weller Brown at 988-0196, Ext. 16.
