Man Killed When Van Falls on Him
TARZANA — A 35-year-old man repairing his minivan in the driveway of his home died Tuesday when the vehicle slipped off a jack, crushing him.
The man was last seen about 1:30 p.m., when he went outside to work on his white Dodge minivan, said Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Brian Humphrey.
Hours later, his wife came out to check on him and saw that the van had fallen off a hydraulic jack, pinning the man’s neck and chest. Paramedics were called to the home, in the 5200 block of Oakdale Avenue, about 9 p.m.
Humphrey said it appeared the man had been dead for several hours.
Humphrey said the van had been resting solely on the jack, a temporary means of hoisting a vehicle, rather than a jack stand meant to support the weight of the van.
