Shoe Frenzy 2000 to Benefit Women’s Clinic and Counseling Center
How often do you get the chance to do good while shopping for shoes?
Thousands of pairs of shoes will be for sale at tremendous discounts on June 3 as part of a fund-raiser called Shoe Frenzy 2000, a name with which we totally identify.
Brand names will include Ferragamo, Cole Haan, Charles David, Steve Madden, Kenneth Cole and others, at prices between 50 and 80% below retail.
Proceeds from the Saturday sale benefit the Women’s Clinic and Family Counseling Center of Los Angeles, a frenzy-free operation that offers free medical services such as mammograms, HIV testing and checkups.
The sale, 8:30 to 2 p.m., will be at the Veteran’s Memorial Center, Rotunda Room, 4117 Overland Ave., Culver City. Information: (310) 203-8336.

All fashion shows should be this civilized. On Saturday, a select group of stars and notables gathered on the lush lawn of Sherry Lansing’s Bel-Air manse to support a good cause and to see Michael Kors’ standout fall collection.
The event launched the new Web site for the night’s beneficiary, the Rape Treatment Center at Santa Monica-UCLA Medical Center. The site, at https://www.911rape.org, gives victims and others a place to seek help anonymously. Gail Abarbanel, the center’s founder and director, said it can also help victims who are too traumatized to discuss their assaults in person.
Saks Fifth Avenue, Kors and his fragrance backer, Parfums Givenchy, cut big checks to pay for the event’s tickets, tent and expenses for top models Alek Wek, Amy Wesson, Amy Lemons, Kiara, Ling and a dozen more (who donated their time).
In a rare West Coast appearance, Kors, who also staged a Saks trunk show on Monday, presented an edited version of his New York extravaganza--but with more stars in the front rows: the treatment center’s board members David Schwimmer and Susan Dey, along with Courteney Cox Arquette, Luke Wilson, Anthony Kiedis, Rosanna Arquette, Diane Lane, Leelee Sobieski, Meena Suvari, Joan Kors (Michael’s mother) and even Mayor Richard Riordan.

After 38 years at the Fashion Square Mall in Sherman Oaks, menswear retailer Sy Devore has a new address--the corner of Ventura Boulevard and Coldwater Canyon in Studio City (in part of the former Ron Ross space).
“We were the last original tenant. And we got tired of being in a mall,” said Marti Devore, co-owner of the store. “I think people aren’t happy in malls because they are all so cookie cutter. We were losing our regular customers, who wanted something more unique.”
The 3,500-square-foot store offers upscale brands such as Vestimenta, Zanella and Hugo Boss.

Levi Strauss & Co. has served Los Angeles-based urban sportswear designer Karl Kani with a summons claiming trademark infringement and unfair competition. The San Francisco-based bluejeans maker claims that a rhinestone Karl Kani logo on a women’s jean style is too similar to a Levi logo.
