Maria Castillo; Longtime Ventura Resident
Longtime Ventura resident Maria Castillo died Sunday at a local hospital after a brief illness. She was 78.
Castillo was born Aug. 24, 1921, in Jalisco, Mexico, and moved to Ventura County in 1966. She was a member of Our Lady of the Assumption Church in Ventura.
According to her family, the most important things in Castillo’s life were her children and grandchildren. She spent 55 years as a homemaker, raising and caring for her family.
Castillo is survived by three daughters, Raquel Carbajal of Oxnard, Enedelia Rios of Ventura and Yolanda Castillo of Guadalajara, Mexico; two sons, Juan Castillo and Christopher Castillo, both of Ventura; a brother, Julio Sanchez of Guadalajara; a sister, Martina Sanchez of Los Angeles; 12 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Visitation is scheduled from noon to 8 p.m. Thursday with a rosary at 7 p.m. the same day at Ted Mayr Funeral Home in Ventura, which is handling the arrangements.
A funeral Mass is planned for 10 a.m. Friday at Our Lady of the Assumption Church, with entombment to follow at Ivy Lawn Memorial Park in Ventura.
