MIKE PENNER’S DOME FACTOR
Requirement for inclusion: Must have a home dome.
1. Minnesota (7-2): The NFL’s greatest foul-weather team of the ‘70s suddenly can’t win outside the hermetically sealed Metrodome.
2. St. Louis (7-2): The Greatest Show on Earth? Not under the TransWorld Dome big top, not after Joe Nedney’s last-minute game-winner for the Panthers.
3. Indianapolis (6-3): Mike Curtis, Bubba Smith and Ted Hendricks never played inside something called the RCA Dome. And that’s part of the Colts’ problem.
4. New Orleans (6-3): Considering the Saints’ history, “Superdome” has always been stretch. “Wild Card Dome” would be closer to the mark.
5. Detroit (5-4): The Pontiac Silverdome, home to no-class fans, no-flash quarterbacks and perpetually disappointing football team. Gary Moeller, it’s all yours.
6. Atlanta (3-7): Welcome to the Georgia Dome, where the Falcons are served up to hungry guests each fall. Pheasant under glass.
