Man, 19, Wounded; Gunman Sought
OXNARD — A 19-year-old Port Hueneme man was shot twice while talking with two friends outside a liquor store, authorities said Saturday.
Eric Loya was listed in good condition Saturday night at St. John’s Regional Medical Center after being shot in the upper body shortly before 10 p.m. Friday, authorities said.
Loya was sitting in a car in the 100 block of Channel Islands Boulevard when an unidentified man walked up and shot him, according to Oxnard police. It was unclear what, if anything, the shooter had said before firing, authorities said.
The gunman then fired at Loya’s two friends as they ran from the scene, authorities said. Police said Freddie Brown, 19, and Oscar Gutierrez, 18, both of Oxnard, were not injured.
The reason for the shooting was under investigation but authorities said the gunman may be a gang member. There was no evidence the victims were gang members, police said.
Anyone who saw the shooting is urged to call Terry Burr or Trent Jewel, Oxnard detectives, at 385-7605.
