Death Toll Hits 9 in Collapsed Buildings
Rescue workers recovered three more bodies from the ruins of two collapsed apartment buildings near Beirut, the capital, bringing the death toll to nine. Searchers used bulldozers, jackhammers, shovels and their bare hands to look for a woman who remained missing. In addition, 27 people were injured when the two adjacent four-story apartment buildings collapsed while many residents slept early Saturday in Naameh on the Mediterranean coast. Residents and rescuers blamed shoddy construction for the tragedy. The owner of the buildings has been arrested.
