BEING GEORGE BLANDA
George Blanda was 46 before he stopped kicking field goals for the Oakland Raiders. Some players today are giving the old man a run for his money . . .
1. EDDIE MURRAY
The much-journeyed kicker turned 44 in August, turned in four field goals on Monday, his first game back with the Redskins.
2. WARREN MOON
Veteran quarterback, now 44, is older than all four NFL teams for which he has played (Chiefs, Seahawks, Vikings, Oilers/Titans).
3. GARY ANDERSON
Viking kicker, now 41, eclipsed Blanda’s league scoring record in October, still needs more than three seasons to catch Blanda in total games played (340).
4. DARRELL GREEN
Turns 41 in February, still starting for the Redskins at cornerback, of all places. Played Monday night with a torn calf, still helped shut down the Rams’ aerial circus. Not bad for a “100-year-old guy with a bad leg,” as Green puts it.
5. MORTEN ANDERSEN
Something of a miracle worker. Spent 13 years in New Orleans, six more in Atlanta and somehow managed to play in a Super Bowl, kicking a pair of field goals against the Broncos. Now 40 and pretty much the extent of the Falcon scoring attack.
