College to Host Children’s Authors
Local children’s books authors will read from their work and discuss the writing process during a round-table discussion at Moorpark College on Monday.
Scheduled to appear are Betty Britton, author of “Promises, Promises;” Mary Ann Fraser, author and illustrator of “Vicksburg” and illustrator of “Why Frogs Are Wet;” Michelle Markel, author of “Cornhusk, Silk & Wishbones: A Book of Dolls from Around the World;” and Amada Irma Perez, a teacher at Oxnard’s Mar Vista School and author of “My Very Own Room.”
Also scheduled to participate is living-history performer Suzanne Lawrence, who will appear as Helen Hunt Jackson, author of “Ramona.”
The round-table is sponsored by the college’s teacher training program, a state and federally-funded internship program that trains college students to become literacy tutors. This semester, the more than 40 students enrolled in the program are serving as reading and writing tutors in east county elementary schools.
The round-table, in the Campus Center Conference Room, is free and open to the public. Parking is $1.
