Suspended Animation at Valley
Ron Ponciano, acting football coach at Valley College, said the suspensions of quarterback Tim Wilson, receiver Julian Battle and running back Roderick Thomas are indefinite, but did not rule out their return this season.
Ponciano suspended the three players last week and they missed Valley’s 17-7 loss to Hancock on Saturday.
“It really had to do with their behavior,” Ponciano said.
Ponciano is running the Monarchs while Coach Carl Ferrill is on medical leave because of prostate cancer.
Ferrill oversaw Valley’s offense along with offensive coordinator Marc Dumlao.
Ponciano said he tried to talk Harry Welch, former Canyon High coach and offensive coordinator at Valencia last season, into helping out with the Monarchs but Welch is unavailable because of family commitments.
Against Hancock, Dallas Enoch and Eric Felton alternated at quarterback.
Enoch, 6 feet 3 and 250 pounds, this season was a starting offensive tackle and later a starting tight end, and also punts. He played end last season.
Antelope Valley: The school is billing the fund-raiser as “The Running of the Balls,” a takeoff on the running of the bulls in Pamplona, Spain.
This one sounds a little less dangerous and potentially a lot more profitable.
The fund-raiser, to support the school’s sports program, is set for 2 p.m. on Saturday at Marauder Stadium.
Here’s how it works:
For a $25 donation, a person receives a numbered golf ball. All of the balls will be tossed down a ramp at the stadium just before the start of Marauders’ game against Southwestern at 3 p.m.
Prizes will be awarded to the first 20 balls crossing the finish line, with the winner receiving $5,000.
Cal Lutheran: Despite their 2-2 record, the Kingsmen boast the leading passer and receiver in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

Brian Woodworth leads the SCIAC with 24 receptions. Chris Dingman, with 18 catches, and Eugene Sullivan, with 15, rank among the top five.
Cal Lutheran plays a nonconference game at home Saturday against Azusa Pacific.

The Master’s: Goalkeeper Eric Pattison is a big reason for the Mustangs’ 13-3 record in men’s soccer.
Pattison, a junior from Laguna Niguel, has played every minute this season for the Mustangs, posting a school-record nine shutouts and a goals-against average of 0.88.
Master’s has won six in a row, all shutouts, entering a nonconference game today at Christian Heritage in El Cajon.
Monte Brooks, who led thebaseball team to its best season in school history, will be honored as ABCA/Diamond Sports Company NAIA Region II coach of the year in Nashville Jan. 4-7.
The Mustangs were 37-15, winning the Region II championship, and finishing third in their first-ever appearance in the NAIA World Series.
