* CAL STATE NORTHRIDGE (1-5, 0-4) vs. MONTANA STATE (0-6, 0-3)

Both teams will try to end losing streaks and avoid winding up in the Big Sky Conference cellar. Montana State has lost 12 in a row dating to last season, including a 24-21 defeat against Northridge at Bozeman. The game was decided when Carson Souter of Montana State missed a 48-yard field-goal attempt in the final seconds, giving the Matadors their only victory in four tries against the Bobcats. Northridge has lost four in a row and has played inconsistently. Mike Kramer, first year coach at Montana State, figures to earn his first victory. “Northridge is very, very wounded on defense, very small on defense, but also very fast and aggressive,” Kramer said. “So, there’s an opening for us.” Both teams rank poorly in statistical categories. Still, Marcus Brady brings play-making ability for Northridge and the Matadors should be able to move the chains against the Bobcats. Drew Amerson has returned from an early season knee injury and caught a five-yard scoring pass from Brady last week against Montana. Brady spread 20 completions among nine receivers against Montana. Northridge’s defense recorded two touchdowns against Montana, the first time since 1994 it scored twice in a game. Safety Travis Campbell has returned two interceptions for touchdowns and is among team leaders in tackles.

DIVISION III

* LA VERNE (1-2, 1-4) vs. CAL LUTHERAN (0-1, 2-3)

At Mt. Clef Stadium, Thousand Oaks, 1 p.m.

One of the best offenses in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference will be pitted against one of the best defenses when the high-scoring Kingsmen play their homecoming game against La Verne. Conversely, the Leopards will match the lowest-ranking offense in the six-team SCIAC against Cal Lutheran’s lowest-ranking defense. One common denominator is Redlands, which is 4-2 overall and has a conference victory over each team. The Kingsmen played their second game of the season at Redlands and lost, 38-31. The Leopards took on the Bulldogs last week and lost, 22-10, at home. La Verne, which yields 110 yards per game on the ground, gives up 288.8 yards per game total, second-best in the conference. The Leopards are led by defensive backs Jon Johnson and Mario Franklin, who have five of the team’s seven interceptions. La Verne averages just under 230 yards offensively. The Kingsmen, who gain an average of 476 yards per game, are led by Chris Czernek, who throws for 264.6 yards and has a passing efficiency rating of 138.4. Dorian Stitt leads the Kingsmen in rushing at 119.2 yards per game. Cal Lutheran, though, has given up more than 514 yards a game.

JUNIOR COLLEGE

* L.A. SOUTHWEST (3-2) vs. MOORPARK (4-1)

At Moorpark, 7 p.m.

This season’s last series of divisional crossovers between Western State Conference teams pits Moorpark against a tough club that was ranked among the state’s top 20 earlier this year. Both teams are coming off a conference-wide bye last week, so the momentum of Moorpark’s four-game winning streak might be threatened. The teams are matched evenly on offense, with Southwest averaging 318.6 yards to Moorpark’s 306.4. Southwest is playing better on defense, allowing 219.4 yards to Moorpark’s 293.0. Ray Carmel of Moorpark is third in the WSC in rushing with 508 yards and Treveon Fulton of Southwest is 11th with 349 yards. Keenan Carter of Southwest has passed for 681 yards and six touchdowns, and Tim Bird of Moorpark has 547 yards passing and four touchdowns.

* GLENDALE (2-3) vs. EAST L.A. (4-1)

At East L.A., 7 p.m.

Glendale must figure how to contain Fernando Delgadillo, the WSC’s top passer with 1,151 yards, 11 touchdowns and a completion rate of 63.9%. The Huskies, coached by former Cal State Northridge assistant Rick Gamboa, are averaging 411.4 yards. Glendale is last in offense in the 16-team conference at 244.2 yards per game. Jamel Applewhite, who has 464 yards rushing and seven touchdowns, leads the Vaqueros. The interdivisional game comes one week before East L.A. travels to Bakersfield for a Southern Division showdown with the first-place Renegades, who at 3-0 lead the Huskies by one game. So East L.A. can hardly afford to misfire against Glendale.
