A trade bill approved Tuesday by the House would ban the import of products made with dog and cat fur as well as suspend tariffs on an HIV-combating drug.

The measure, HR 4868, was sent back to the Senate, which approved a different version.

Wayne Pacelle of the Humane Society of the United States said the legislation addresses the problem in Asia where millions of dogs and cats are killed for the pelts to export to Western markets.

The bill also temporarily suspends tariffs on DPC 961 and DPC 083, drugs that have proved effective in the treatment of people with HIV, the virus that causes AIDS.
