Ex-Bruin Bailey Cut by the Bulls

Former UCLA guard Toby Bailey was waived Tuesday by the Chicago Bulls.

In six preseason games for Chicago, Bailey averaged 4.2 points and 1.8 rebounds. He played the last two seasons with the Phoenix Suns, averaging 3.3 points and 1.7 rebounds.

Bailey was a second-round draft pick out of UCLA, where he was fourth in career scoring.

The Bulls’ roster stands at 15.

The San Antonio Spurs waived forward Chris Carrawell.

Carrawell, the 41st overall pick in June’s NBA draft, averaged 5.6 points and 2.6 rebounds in the preseason.

Garry Wortman, an Atlanta Hawk assistant coach and director of scouting, died of cancer on Monday in Atlanta. He was 59. Wortman, in his eighth year with the Hawks, had an inoperable brain tumor. Wortman held similar jobs in Seattle. . . . The Orlando Magic beat the Heat, 104-90, at Miami to earn its franchise-record seventh consecutive exhibition victory. The game concluded a 1-5 exhibition season for the Heat, still adjusting to the loss of all-star center Alonzo Mourning for at least the season because of a kidney disorder.
