Etherson was near perfect in Friday night’s 26-0 victory over Katella. The senior quarterback completed 17 of 19 passes for 254 yards and two touch-
downs,
keeping
the Fighting Irish undefeated in the
Empire
League and tied for first place with Loara. Rhema McKnight was Etherson’s main target, as the junior wide receiver hauled in 10 catches for 179 yards, including a leaping touchdown between two defenders.

Newport Harbor, Water Polo
Scored 12 goals in four games at the Tru-West Memorial Cup, leading Newport Harbor to the championship game.

Marina, Cross-Country
Became Marina’s first Sunset League title-winner in 11 years, finishing the 2.97 miles in 14 minutes 51 seconds.
Claudia Ochoa
Saddleback, Cross-Country
Ochoa won the individual title at the Golden West League finals, and she set a league record with her winning time of 18 minutes 35 seconds on the three-mile course at Central Park. It was the first time this season that she broke the 19-minute mark. Ochoa, who missed the first two meets of the season when she was sick and lost five pounds, upset Veronica Pedraza of Santa Ana, who finished second in 18:58.

Villa Park, Tennis
Defeated Tracy Lin, 6-2, at No. 1 singles to help Villa Park to a 13-5 upset of then-sixth-ranked Canyon.
* Lori Mann
Santa Margarita, Cross-Country
Set a course record, by eight seconds, winning in 18:08 as No. 10 Santa Margarita defeated No. 6 Mater Dei.
